Even though I have been teaching Seated Tai Chi, Qigong and Yoga for many years I have begun researching different yoga and energy systems and I recently purchased this 224 page soft cover (Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan: Unlock your inner potential through life-changing exercise by Shakta Kaur Khalsa) book from Amazon for a bargain price.This is a fully illustrated book with color photographs to show each of the various postures (asana) taught in Kundalini Yoga. This slick volume is organized into nine chapters covering the following areas: Roots of Yoga-Starting at ground zero, basics of Kundalini Yoga, warming up to yoga, Kundalini yoga kriyas, intermediate kriyas, the art of deep relaxation, meditation, the yoga of daily life, and healing foods. There is also a glossary, recommended books and web sites section in this text.I have only one complaint about this book and that is the font used is very, very small; however, the photographs are clear and large enough to see the details of the movements. Like any psychomotor skill book the best combination to learn Kundalini Yoga is a combination of hands on training with an instructor along with studying the book.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. This book is a great, easy to understand, introduction to Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan. Even though this is not a book full of yoga sets and meditations, it has enough to get you started. More importantly it will give the foundation for the teachings and practices so you understand why you're doing what you're doing.I constantly go back to this book for a few shorter and fun yoga sets, and to refresh on the basics. It's a great book to have in your library, and feel it's a good beginners and seasoned practitioners alike.
I love this book! I wouldn't recommend it for someone who has zero Kundalini Yoga experience (as i was when i first got it). However, i highly recommend it for beginners who have some sort of audio/visual resource where they can see a few kriyas modeled for them. Kirtan Kriya is one of those kriyas that anyone can do without a teacher, but it's really helpful once you get into a kriya that requires bending, or chanting, or mudras, to just have someone show you how to walk through it. Once I had the introduction to a few classes, this book became SUPER valuable. There is so much information just jam packed into this one book it boggles my mind! I love it! It also has some great resources (with specific recommendations for songs and artists, so you don't have to worry about buying a lemon!) in the back, which i found *very* helpful. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is that it just can't be used by 1st timers. Otherwise it'd be 5 stars.
I'm coming back to kundalini yoga after years away. Unfortunately, in the town I live in now there isn't an instructor available so I wanted something to suppliment the movies I am using. Basically, to make sure my form is ok and to provide something to work on on days when I may not want to do inversions. The book is beautiful and descriptive and works wonderfully the way I use it.I think that people will get the most out of this book when they use it either in conjunction with live classes or with video classes the way I am. It would probably also be a good book to read if you are considering kundalini yoga, but want to see exactly what it is and what the philosophy behind kundalini yoga considers. My husband thinks yoga is a bit goofy and he could tell by the discussions in the back of the book that he will not be doing kundalini yoga. Learning that was also valuable for him. I'm very pleased with my purchase.
This is an excellent book. There are numerous kriyas illustrated and explained in the book. As someone that regular lifts weights, plays sports, and throws kettle bells around, this book gives exercises which provide recovery and improved flexibility. There are also some kriyas which provide a physical challenge. I recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their well-being, be it an athlete who takes abuse regularly, or someone looking to improve flexibility, bodily awareness, and to activate their kundalini life force; their qi energy; opening up their bioenergetic pathways, etc. etc. however many ways there is to describe it. A+
This book was sent to me by Amazon with it covered in grease.This is the third time I bought this book, once to replace a stolen copy (it was that good), and another time because someone who saw me with it wanted it as a gift. So the book itself is that good but it was delivered contaminated.
Here is a warm and friendly introductory book to Kundalini yoga as popularized by Yogi Bhajan. It was written by one of his students. The author assures you that Kundalini may be practiced by anyone. If you would like to have a few sets you can do at home, in addition to some information on a yogic lifestyle this is a good starting place. A few of the topics covered are food, sleep, ethics, meditations, breath exercises and physical exercises. The book is written in simple language. It is easy to read, not a lot of Sanskrit terms like older yoga books have.
I went to Kundalini yoga classes for 7 years and since my teacher went away I have missed it so much. Looking forward to attending classes again now that I have moved. But want to try to get into it again by doing some practice at home. so this is my second time purchasing this book and it has simple explanations of yoga postures.
